The closest major city to Prague by road
Dresden is about 150 kilometres north on the D8 and A17, which makes it a genuine two-hour trip and the easiest international day trip from Prague. A private transfer works particularly well here because the distance is short enough that a same-day return with several hours in Dresden fits comfortably inside a nine-hour booking.
The last stretch drops through Bohemian Switzerland and follows the Elbe. It is one of the more scenic motorway approaches in Central Europe, which is worth knowing if you were planning to sleep through it.
What it costs
Dresden runs are quoted individually and fixed before you confirm. Tolls and the German road network are included; there is no meter and no surcharge for traffic. For a one-way transfer, tell us both addresses and your time. For a day trip, the nine-hour package at 9,000 CZK usually covers Prague to Dresden, several hours in the city and the return, since it includes up to 240 km.
Day trip shape that works
An 8am departure from Prague puts you in the Altstadt around 10am. That is enough for the Zwinger, the Frauenkirche and the Brühl Terrace before lunch, an afternoon at the Gemäldegalerie or the Grünes Gewölbe, and a departure around 5pm that has you back in Prague for dinner. The car stays with you all day, so shopping and coats go in the boot rather than around your shoulders.
Border and paperwork
Czechia and Germany are both in Schengen, so the crossing at Petrovice/Bahratal is normally uninterrupted, though spot checks do happen and you should carry ID or a passport. Nothing else is required of you — the vignette, tolls and insurance are our side of the arrangement.
